ShoutOut LA: Trauma Therapy Feature

ShoutOut LA: My Work as a Trauma Therapist in the Spotlight

Life often presents us with opportunities that challenge us to step out of our comfort zones. Recently, I experienced one such moment when I was invited to be featured as a somatic therapist and trauma therapist in ShoutOut LA. As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and trauma therapist specializing in somatic trauma therapy, I am passionate about helping others heal and thrive. However, the idea of putting myself out there for an interview was daunting. Initially, I almost said no. Today, I am grateful that I faced my fears and embraced this incredible opportunity.

Facing Fears as a Trauma Therapist

When ShoutOut LA first approached me for an interview, my immediate reaction was hesitation. Public recognition and media features were outside my usual realm of comfort. My work as a trauma therapist is deeply personal, and I am usually in the background, supporting my clients through their journeys. The prospect of turning the spotlight on myself felt intimidating. What if I wasn’t articulate enough? What if my story didn’t resonate?  I might look really old and unattractive in the photos.

These fears and doubts swirled in my mind, pushing me to consider declining the offer. Yet, something within me resisted the easy path of saying no. I thought about the very essence of my work as a trauma therapist – helping individuals confront and overcome their traumas. I realized that this opportunity was a chance for me to model the very courage and resilience I encourage in my clients.

Overcoming Challenges in Trauma Therapy

Taking a deep breath, I decided to face my fears head-on. I agreed to the interview, telling myself that this was a moment to grow, both personally and professionally. Preparing for the interview, I reflected on my journey as a trauma therapist, my dedication to somatic trauma therapy, and the profound impact I’ve witnessed in my clients’ lives. This reflection not only prepared me for the interview but also deepened my appreciation for the work I do.   I thought about my clients and their journeys, how I tell them that bravery isn’t the lack of fear but feeling the fear and still doing the thing.   I was going to be brave.

The Rewarding Experience of Being Featured

The interview with ShoutOut LA was an incredibly rewarding experience. It allowed me to share my story, my passion for somatic trauma therapy, and the importance of mental health care. More than that, it was a testament to the power of facing one’s fears. I realized that by stepping into the spotlight, I could reach a broader audience, shedding light on the vital work of trauma therapy and encouraging others to seek the help they need.  I want vulnerable and hurting clients to find people who really know how to work with trauma in safety and effectively.

The experience with ShoutOut LA was a significant milestone in my career as a trauma therapist. It taught me that opportunities for growth often come disguised as challenges. By saying yes, despite my initial reservations, I opened the door to new possibilities, connections, and a renewed sense of purpose.

Inspiring Others to Embrace Their Fears

I hope my experience inspires others to embrace their fears and seize the opportunities that come their way. Whether it’s in our personal lives or professional endeavors, facing our fears can lead to unexpected and fulfilling journeys. My feature in ShoutOut LA is a reminder that courage is not the absence of fear, but the decision to move forward despite it.

Thank you to ShoutOut LA for the opportunity to share my story as a trauma therapist.  To anyone reading this, remember – the next time an opportunity knocks, even if it feels intimidating, consider saying yes. You never know where it might lead you.
